Contemporary, and above all, enjoyable
Dutch composer, arranger, and orchestrator Stephen Emmer, born in 1958, has collaborated with Lou Reed, Chaka Khan, Patti Austin, Leon Ware, Julian Lennon, Glenn Gregory, Billy MacKenzie, Mary Griffin, Peter Coyle, Claudia Brücken, and Martha Ladley, as well as Tony Visconti, Flood, Trevor Horn, Steve Power, Martin Hannett, Nigel Gray, and Bob Power.
It is said that in composing Mt. Mundane, Stephen Emmer set his life to music. The loss of hearing in his left ear was a clear hardship for him, leading him to create the Artists Against Tinnitus Foundation to raise awareness of the hearing problems faced by musicians.
For these works for orchestra, piano, and voice (including cinematic adagios), Stephen Emmer drew inspiration from French composers such as André Caplet, Lili Boulanger, Maurice Ravel, and Claude Debussy.
The result is music that is contemporary and, above all, enjoyable.
