For centuries, composers' workspaces have remained an elusive and sacred realm—hidden playgrounds that have produced some of the most important works of art known to man. Wouldn't you like to know, just for once, what such a space sounds like from the inside? This time, award-winning composer, producer, and quality market leader in media music in the Benelux, Stephen Emmer, welcomes the audience to a new kind of audio-cinematic experience.

Spatial neo-classical concept album

Maison Melody AM:PM is one of the world’s first spatial neo-classical concept albums in both the ultra-modern Dolby Atmos and Sony 360 formats. Listeners are virtually invited into the composer’s sound world, where they can personally experience the synergy between the pieces being created there and the space where the compositions are made. Through ultra-modern spatial audio technology and state-of-the-art sound design, the audience is taken on a virtual, sound-only tour through the entire house—Maison Melody—creating a sense of total immersion in a three-dimensional space. The tour lasts 40 minutes and depicts a day in the composer’s life.

A truly immersive experience

This use of technology brings listeners into direct contact with the concept of Maison Melody AM:PM, where domestic ambient sounds blend with Emmer’s compositions in such a way that it truly feels as if you are present at the creative process yourself. Emmer: “With this innovative project, we wanted to provide insight not only into the creative result but also into the creation process itself. Dolby Atmos and Sony 360 Formats help break down the barrier between artist and listener, placing the audience directly in the composer's shoes, creating a truly immersive experience like no other.”

Cinema for the Ears

As a combination of a traditional music album, podcast, and radio drama, it even hints at a possible new genre: Cinema for the Ears. Maison Melody AM:PM is a reissue of Stephen Emmer’s previous album, Maison Melody. The 10-composition project was a meditative neoclassical exploration of the relationship between an artist and their space. Using advanced technology, this project has now been fully realised with an international endorsement from Dolby Atmos Music.

Ronald Prent

This makes the album the latest work in Emmer’s rich oeuvre. Stephen has previously collaborated with people like Lou Reed, Chaka Khan, Patti Austin, Julian Lennon, Midge Ure, and producers such as Tony Visconti, Flood, Trevor Horn, and Bob Power. Stephen was also the musical director behind Holiday on Ice Shows ‘Speed’, ‘Platinum’, and ‘Believe’. More recently, the Prix de Rome winner accompanied Cartoon Network Live! Heroes Unite and released the highly acclaimed and award-winning soul album Home Ground, particularly in America. Maison Melody AM:PM was composed and performed by Stephen Emmer, mixed by Ronald Prent, winner of the 2021 IBC Innovation Award, and recorded by Francesco Donadello, the award-winning recording engineer behind Chernobyl and EA Battlefield 2042.
